One of our most common hat questions is: Which style fits the deepest? So we put together a quick guide to help you find your perfect TIMI hat.
All of our hats are one size fits most, adjustable, and fit approximately hat sizes 6 1/2–7 5/8, but each style fits a little differently.
Which TIMI hat has the deepest fit?
Our denim hats are our favorite choice if you’re looking for a deeper-fitting unstructured hat.
While they're still soft and relaxed like a dad hat, the denim styles have a little more depth and coverage than our classic cotton dad hats.
When measured from side to side over the top of the crown, we get approximately:
- Denim Hat: 34 cm
- Structured Hat: ~33 cm
- Cotton Dad Hat: 32 cm
Because hats are three-dimensional and everyone’s head shape is different, these aren't traditional hat-sizing measurements—but they're a helpful way to compare the relative depth of our three styles.
What’s the difference between the Denim Hat and Cotton Dad Hat?
Both are unstructured, adjustable hats with a soft crown, but the denim hat has a roomier, slightly deeper fit.
Choose the Denim Hat if: you like a relaxed hat but want more crown depth or more coverage around the sides of your head.
Choose the Cotton Dad Hat if: you love the classic, low-profile dad-hat fit and prefer something a little shallower.
What about the Structured Hat?
Our Structured Hat has a mid-profile crown and firm front panels, giving it more shape and room than a traditional low-profile dad hat.
It’s a great option if you want a hat that feels a little more substantial and holds its shape rather than collapsing around your head.
It also has an adjustable snapback closure.
Which hat is best for a larger head?
We’d start with either the Denim Hat or Structured Hat.
Both offer a little more room and depth than our Cotton Dad Hat, while still being adjustable. If you specifically want an unstructured hat, go with denim.
I want my hat to come down closer to my ears. Which should I choose?
Denim!
The slightly deeper crown allows it to sit farther down on the head than our classic Cotton Dad Hat. Of course, exactly where it lands will depend on your head shape and how you adjust the hat.
What are the crown heights?
Our approximate crown heights are:
Structured Hat: 3.4"
Denim Hat: 3.2"–3.3"
Cotton Dad Hat: 3.2"–3.3"
You might notice that the listed crown heights don't look dramatically different. That's because crown height alone doesn't tell the whole story about how a hat fits. The shape, construction, panels, and overall crown volume can make two hats with similar height measurements feel very different when worn.
